Saxe-Meiningen, 75th Birthday 2 Mark, 1901-D (Munich), PCGS MS65
Although considered a commemorative, this is actually a currency issue. The 2-Mark pieces with their milled edges always tended to mark each other during transport. That's what makes this piece here so exceptional.
Full, booming lustre with hints of greyish blue and turquoise toward the rims, the slight chatter is mainly confined to the portrait, where it is well hidden. The fields on the reverse exhibit the qualities of an early strike.
I have no idea why PCGS didn't give this coin a "+"; when you hold this coin in your hand, I think you'll ask the same question! This is a killer coin!
