Saxe-Meiningen, 5 Mark, 1902-D (Munich), PCGS MS64
With the very high relief and large fields, these coins are notoriously difficult to find in top condition. This example shows only the slightest of imperfections in the fields. The full striking and contrast are impressive. There is a light hint of golden-brown toning toward the rims. We are not aware of a finer example of the 1902 Short Beard available to the collecting public.
NB: This coin is another example of PCGS's dual standards. If this were a North American coin, it would have been given an additional "PL" grade.
