Prussia, 5 Mark, 1875-A (Berlin), PCGS MS61

Coin Details

Take another look at the Pops: why is this the highest to date?  We tried this for MS62 but PCGS wouldn't give.  I guess they didn't find the lustre on the reverse to be full enough.

Musings ... The mint in Berlin may have considered the economics of such a large mintage of large coins and decided to spare the dies by easing up on the striking pressure during production.  Fact is, that the 5-Mark pieces struck in Berlin for 1875 all exhibit a weak striking which sadly does not do justice to this beautiful portrait.

KM doesn't attempt to value this issue at anything higher than UNC (MS60).
