Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, 80th Birthday 2 Mark, 1898-A (Berlin), PCGS PR64

Coin Details

Only a few extremely faint, stray hair-lines are all that keep this Proof from being perfect.  The details are sharp with flashy mirrors which are just starting to take on some blueish-grey hues.

Officially NO Proofs of this circulation coin were made.  However, it is believed that 80 pieces in Proof quality were struck at the behest of the Grand Duke for presentation during the celebrations of his 80th Birthday on June 24th, 1898.  That would make this one of the rarest Proof strikings of a silver circulation coin of the entire German Empire, and this may well be the finest of the few survivors.

The KM valuation has nothing to do with reality.
